8th grade Interdisciplinary Project - Art/ELA - Nonfiction

Nonfiction (n): writing or cinema that is about facts or real events

In ELA, students read nonfiction texts.  They learned about the real world and experiences based on facts and information.

This project was an opportunity to combine ELA nonfiction concepts with visual imagery about a subject they cared about.

Choose one option:
  1. Graphic story: many artists and writers use comic strips as a story-telling medium.  Challenge #1 is to create a graphic novel –style visual nonfiction story.
  2. Layered Visual Story: as artists Star Wallowing Bull and Frida Kahlo discovered, visual art offers a limitless opportunity to describe ones journey.  You will draw or paint a layered non-fiction story. Challenge # 2 is to create a complex visual narrative that communicates a true story.
 Graphic Stories:

Hakeem's graphic story told about a trip to the skate park.

Layered Images:

Isabel's 3-part layered images told about a mob story.
Zhanaia created a layered artwork about the life-cycle of a plant.

Angelyn created a mask to depict the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius.
