7th grade Interdisciplinary Project: China Art Project
In this unit,
we connected to History class, where students were learning about three major
Chinese philosophies: Confucianism, Daoism, and Legalism.
In Art, they created two
visual stories about a two of three of these philosophies.
Practice Work:
Daoism
Lao-tzu (500
BCE) promoted the idea of Daoism. This
included the idea that people gain happiness by living in harmony with nature.
Confucianism
Confucius
(551-479 BCE) promoted a just and peaceful society. Cornerstones included respect for elders,
proper behavior, and love of scholarship.
Legalism
Han-fei-tzu
(280 – 233 BCE) promoted strict laws.
Believed in enforcement with rewards for good behavior and punishments
for bad behavior.
